EXPERIENCE

Since 2012, I have assisted Victoria seniors and adults with disabilities to maintain their health and independence at home with PERSONAL CARE and COMPANIONSHIP, RESPITE CARE, MEALS, SHOPPING, LIGHT HOUSEKEEPING, PET CARE, HOUSE SITTING,  DOWNSIZING & DECLUTTERING. Additional experience cooking for individuals and small groups (up to 20) in private residences and small, independent care homes including meals for specialized diets such as dairy/gluten free, vegetarian and vegan fare as well as good old fashioned comfort food. Home care clients have also enjoyed the benefits of relaxation massage to assist with pain management, improve sleep and promote healing. 2022 was a transitional year marked by a temporary move to rural BC where I worked as kitchen manager and camp cook at the venerable Gang Ranch. This contract concluded at the end of 2023 marking my return to Victoria.

ABOUT LAURIE

Born and raised on the east coast, I have lived, travelled and worked all across the country from sea to sea and as far north as Whitehorse.  My two children were born in Vancouver and raised on the island. Open to a live-in position and willing to relocate for the right, mutually beneficial arrangement.

In my free time, I enjoy beach walks and nature hikes, sunrises and sunsets, campfires and singalongs. I practice sound healing and Qi Gong.  Recently I have taken an interest in videography and have started a Youtube channel to share the sights and sounds of nature, sound healing crystal singing bowls (in A432), chanting/breath work, some poetry and scripture which I hope you find calming and inspiring:

“Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”.

Client Testimonials

Carolyn C

I am a 74 year old woman who has an overall body neuropathy that has left me with weakness, fatigue, balance issues and back pain. When I first met Laurie she helped me with many small chores, driving to appointments and shopping. I loved having her help as she was always so caring, efficient, on time and a safe driver! She was sensitive to my specific needs which made me confident that I was safe in her care. Then I discovered she did acupressure massage! I really could not believe the difference in how my back felt in the weeks that I had treatment vs those that I didn’t. Laurie is a caring, experienced and trustworthy care worker whom I am pleased to recommend.

I've had the privilege of knowing Laurie for many years as she cared for both of my parents in their home. It is rare to find someone like Laurie who so willingly provides such a wide range of home care services. My parents both needed a lot of different kinds of care over the years and Laurie met all of their needs. Mom was living with the effects of a stroke and was in a wheelchair at the end of her life and Dad had Lewy Body Dementia among other health issues. Every person is an individual and needs something different if you see them in a holistic way as Laurie does. She is so capable that a person can have complete confidence that their loved one is being well cared for is Laurie is on the job. You'd be lucky to have her!

I highly recommend Laurie who worked respectfully with both my parents and our family. Laurie loves nothing more than being a part of an elders wish to stay in their home. With declining health, my parents care needs kept changing, and Laurie was completely adaptable to any situation given over and over again. Her maturity and responsibility are reflected in all her actions from walks, talks, card playing, errands, outings, BP monitoring, medication reminders, hygiene and light housekeeping, etc, I only wish my parents were willing to enjoy her cooking skills! I would put Laurie at the top of my list to hire. As a retired nurse, I feel that I have a lot of experience in judging and observing someone's character and work ethic. Laurie does not disappoint especially in trying times of finding elder care that you feel good about. She is a ray of sunshine!

Laurie was instrumental in assisting and speeding up my post-op shoulder surgery recovery. She is well rounded in many aspects of health care, which amongst other skills, include her knowledge of acupressure and nutrition. Laurie was great in helping me both with daily tasks around the home, and attention to detail regarding my shoulder rehab. I highly recommend her, with her warm heart and knowledge, you will be in good and caring hands.
